Installation

1. Install the new cylinder head gasket.
2. Install the cylinder head over the locator pins and the cylinder head gasket.
3. Coat the threads of the cylinder head bolts with the sealing compound, GM P/N 12346004 or the equivalent.
4. Install the cylinder head bolts finger tight. Tighten the cylinder head bolts/screws (81) finger tight.

Head Tightening Sequence:

Tighten

- Cylinder head bolts/screws (81) in sequence and in three passes to 88 N.m (65 lb. ft.) (Figure 20).






6. Install the left valve rocker arm cover and the bolts. Tighten the valve rocker arm cover bolts to 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.).
7. Install the coolant temperature sensor electrical connector.
8. Install the spark plugs. Tighten the spark plugs to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
9. Install the spark plug wire harness to the spark plugs.
10. Install the spark plug wire harness to the clips.
11. Install the left exhaust manifold. See Exhaust System.
12. Install the ignition coil bolts and the coil. Tighten the ignition coil studs to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
13. Install the engine coolant air bleed pipe and the bolt to the left cylinder head using a backup wrench on the pipe fitting. Tighten the engine coolant bleed pipe bolt to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).






14. Install the secondary air injection hose to the check valve.
15. Install the intake manifold.
16. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
17. Install the oxidation catalytic converter. See Powertrain Management.
18. Lower the vehicle.
19. Refill with coolant. See Cooling System.
