Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Service Procedure

FOR ALL INVOLVED VEHICLES

Have owner sign and date the "Option Selection Form" (included with the owner notification letter) indicating which option the owner is choosing (refund or battery replacement). Proceed with the service procedure which follows if the owner chooses to have the battery replaced. If the owner instead chooses to receive the refund, install a Campaign Identification Label and proceed to the "Claim Information" section of bulletin.

NOTICE:
WHEN HANDLING A BATTERY, THE FOLLOWING SAFETY PRECAUTIONS SHOULD BE FOLLOWED:

- Hydrogen gas is produced by the battery. A flame or spark near the battery may cause the gas to ignite.

- Battery (electrolyte) fluid is highly acidic. Avoid spilling on clothing or other fabric. Any spilled electrolyte fluid should be flushed from affected areas with large quantities of water and cleaned immediately.

- The battery should remain in horizontal position to insure electrolyte fluid remains over plates. Failure to keep plates covered with electrolyte fluid could cause sparking.
