Exhaust Gas Recirculation: Service and Repair

EGR Valve Location:






REMOVAL
1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Raise vehicle and remove engine mount retaining nuts.
3. Lower vehicle and use a floor jack under the right side of the oil pan to raise the right side of the engine.

NOTE: Use a piece of wood on the floorjack pad to prevent damaging the oil pan.

CAUTION: Do not use the catalytic converter as a lifting point. Damage to the converter may result.

4. Disconnect EGR valve electrical connector.
5. Remove EGR valve.

INSPECTION AND CLEANING
Inspect EGR valve and pipes for excessive accumulation of carbon deposits. Clean and/or replace as necessary. Care should be taken to remove all loose particles so they will not interfere with EGR valve operation or be allowed into the engine.

Clean all gasket surfaces thoroughly and always use new gaskets when re-installing valve.


INSTALLATION
1. Install in reverse order of removal.
2. Tighten EGR valve bolts to 26 Nm (19 ft.lbs)
3. Tighten engine mount nuts to 50 Nm (38 ft.lbs)
