Remove or Disconnect

1. Negative battery cable at battery.
2. Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor harness connector.
3. Air intake duct.
4. Serpentine drive belt. Refer to .
5. Drain engine coolant from engine. Refer to Service and Repair. Use suitable container to hold coolant.
6. Coolant pump assembly hose (3).
7. Engine coolant temperature sensor connector.
8. Coolant pump assembly (Figure 3). Refer to Service and Repair.
9. Crankshaft torsional damper. Refer to Service and Repair.
10. Belt tensioner.
11. Spark plug (secondary) cables from distributor. Twist a boot 1/2 turn before removing and pull only on the boot to remove wire from distributor.
12. Four-terminal ECM connector from distributor.
13. Distributor mounting bolts (3) (figure 5). Pull distributor forward until drive shaft disengages from engine. Mark the top surface of the shaft to denote location during reassembly.

Install or Connect

NOTICE: When fasteners are removed, always reinstall them at the same location from which they were removed. If a fastener needs to be replaced, use the correct part number fastener for that application. If the correct part number fastener is not available, a fastener of equal size and strength (or stronger) may be used. Fasteners that are not reused, and those requiring thread-locking compound will be called out. The correct torque value must be used when installing fasteners that require it. If the above conditions are not followed, parts or system damage could result.

1. Distributor shaft into distributor, if removed.
2. Distributor and shaft assembly into engine.

Tighten
- Distributor bolts (3) to 11 Nm (8 lb ft).

3. Four-terminal ECM connector to distributor.
4. Spark plug cables to distributor.
5. Belt tensioner.
6. Crankshaft pump assembly to engine. Refer to Service and Repair.
7. Coolant pump assembly to engine. Refer to Service and Repair.
8. Engine coolant temperature sensor connector.
9. Coolant pump assembly hoses (3) to engine.
10. Engine coolant. Refer to Service and Repair.
11. Serpentine drive belt. Refer to .
12. Air intake duct.
13. Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor connector.
14. Negative battery cable at battery.

Tighten
- Battery cable to battery bolt to 15 Nm (11 lb ft).
