Removal and Replacement

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.

2. Disconnect TV cable at upper end then remove dipstick.

3. Raise and support vehicle.

4. Remove upper and lower underbody braces, if equipped.

5. Remove complete exhaust system, then support transmission with a suitable transmission jack.

6. Remove driveline support beam.

7. Mark propeller shaft trunnion and axle yoke for installation reference, then remove propeller shaft.

8. Disconnect speedometer cable or pulse generator electrical connector, shift linkage, and all electrical leads at transmission as well as any clips that retain the leads to transmission case.

9. Remove flywheel cover, then mark flywheel and torque converter to maintain original balance. Remove torque converter to flywheel bolts.

10. Lower transmission to gain access to the oil cooler lines and TV cable attachments, then disconnect oil cooler lines and TV cable, cap all openings.

11. Support engine using suitable jack, then remove transmission to engine attaching bolts.

12. Separate transmission assembly from engine, install torque converter holding fixture tool No. J-21366 or equivalent, then lower transmission from vehicle.

13. Reverse procedure to install.
