Component Tests and General Diagnostics

INSPECTION

1. With engine running at normal operating temperature and brakes applied, hold clutch pedal in fully depressed position and move transmission selector between 1st and reverse several times.
2. If transmission selector can be moved without binding or gear clash, clutch is releasing properly.
3. If shifter cannot be moved or if gear clash is evident, inspect clutch pedal bushings for damage and wear, and replace as needed.
4. If bushings are satisfactory, check clutch pedal travel.
5. Clutch pedal travel should be 6.25 inch.

BLEEDING

1. Fill clutch master cylinder reservoir with clutch hydraulic fluid 12345347 or DOT 3 brake fluid. It may be necessary to remove ECM from mounting bracket to gain access to reservoir. If a squeaking noise is present in clutch master cylinder, drain DOT 3 brake fluid from clutch hydraulic system and fill with clutch hydraulic fluid 12345347 or equivalent.
2. Raise and support vehicle.
3. Remove actuating cylinder attaching bolts and lower cylinder to a point below the catalytic converter, then remove bleeder screw cap.
4. Hold cylinder in horizontal position with bleeder screw vertical.
5. Fully depress and hold clutch pedal, then open bleeder screw.
6. Close bleeder screw, then release clutch pedal.
7. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until all air has been purged from system, remount actuating cylinder and repeat inspection. Check and fill master cylinder reservoir, as needed, to ensure no air is drawn into system during bleeding.
