DTC 53

Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) 53:

PCM Ignition Feed.:

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
CKT 539 is the ignition feed to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) on terminals "B30" and "D3". The PCM monitors the voltage at terminal "D3".

DTC 53 WILL SET WHEN:
DTC 53 will set when the engine is running and the PCM senses a voltage of more than 17.1 volts on PCM terminal "D3."

ACTION TAKEN (PCM will default to):
During the time the fault is present, all PCM outputs will be disengaged and the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) will illuminate.

During the time the failure is present, the pressure control solenoid is turned "OFF," causing maximum line pressure, the 3-2 control solenoid is turned "OFF," transmission shifts immediately to third gear, and Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) operation is inhibited. (The setting of additional diagnostic trouble codes may result.)

DTC CHART TEST DESCRIPTION
Number(s) below refer to circled number(s) on the diagnostic chart.

1. Normal battery output is between 9.6 - 16.0 volts.
2. Checks to see if the high voltage reading is due to the generator or PCM. With engine running, check voltage at the battery. If the voltage is above 17.1 volts, the PCM is OK.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
During the time the failure is present, all PCM outputs will be disengaged to protect the hardware. The setting of additional DTCs may result.
