Troubleshooting Hints

PERFORM BEFORE BEGINNING SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS:

CAUTION: Halogen bulbs contain a gas under pressure. Handling a bulb improperly could cause it to shatter into flying glass fragments.

To help avoid personal injury:
^ Turn the Headlight Switch to the "OFF" position and allow bulb to cool before changing bulbs. Leave the switch in the "OFF" position until bulb change is complete.
^ Always wear eye protection when changing a halogen bulb.
^ Handle the bulb only by its base. Avoid touching the glass.
^ Do not drop or scratch the bulb.
^ Keep moisture away.
^ Place the used bulb in the new bulb's carton and dispose of it properly. Keep halogen bulbs out of the reach of children
.

1. Check LO Beam Lamps and HI Beam Lamps for damage to the filament or bulb.
2. Check I/P Fuse Block Fuse #31. If open, check for a short to ground in CKT 240.
3. Check I/P Fuse Block Fuse #13. If open, check for a short to ground in CKT 639.
4. Check I/P Fuse Block Fuse #20. If open, check for a short to ground in CKT 241.
5. Check that the Ambient Light Sensor is not obstructed.
6. Check Fusible Link A. If open, check for short to ground in CKT 2 or Headlight Switch.
7. Check the LH and RH Dual Beam Headlamp connectors to be sure the connector seal is not damaged or missing.
8. If one Headlamp doesn't work, check the connections, Headlamp and the wires to the Headlamp.
9. If HI Beam Headlights do not light, but the HI Beam Indicator lights, check LT GRN (11) wire for an open.
^ Check for a broken (or partially broken) wire inside of the insulation which could cause system malfunction but prove "GOOD" in a continuity/voltage check with a system disconnected. These circuits may be intermittent or resistive when loaded, and if possible, should be checked by monitoring for a voltage drop with the system operational (under load).
^ Check for proper installation of aftermarket electronic equipment which may affect the integrity of other systems refer Diagnostic Aids. Diagnostic Aids
