Fuel Tank: Service and Repair

Fuel Tank Mounting:






Remove or Disconnect:

1. Disconnect negative battery cable
2. Relieve fuel system pressure
3. Drain fuel tank
4. Raise vehicle on hoist
5. Remove lower fuel tank shield
6. Disconnect hoses and clamps
7. Disconnect fuel filler tube and clamp
8. Disconnect fuel sender assembly electrical connector
9. With aid from an assistant support fuel tank and remove front fuel tank retaining strap attaching bolts, rear fuel tank strap attaching nuts and bolts, both fuel tank retaining straps and fuel tank.



Install or Connect:
1. Install fuel filler tube, grounding strap (if equipped), and fuel filler tube attaching bolts
Torque Value: 2 N-m (18 lb.in.)
2. Install fuel tank cross strap and fuel tank cross strap attaching bolts and nuts
Torque Value: 15 N-m (11 lb.ft.)
3. With aid from an assistant, position and support fuel tank. Install fuel tank retaining straps, front attaching bolts and rear attaching bolts and nuts
Front
Torque Value: 32 N-m (24 lb.ft.)
Rear
Torque Value: 25 N-m (18 lb.ft.)
4. Install fuel filler tube and clamp
5. Install hoses and clamps
6. Connect fuel sender assembly electrical connector
7. Connect fuel tank shields
Torque Value: 2 N-m (18 lb.in.)
8. Lower vehicle
9. Add fuel and install fuel filler cap
10. Connect negative battery cable



Inspect:
Turn ignition switch to "ON" position for two seconds, then turn to "OFF" for ten seconds. Again turn to "ON" position and check for fuel leaks.
