Engine: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.2. Raise and support vehicle.
3. Drain cooling system and crankcase.
4. Remove exhaust system from vehicle.
5. Remove driveshaft from vehicle.
6. Position suitable support under transmission.
7. Remove drive line support member from vehicle.
8. Remove transmission from vehicle.
9. Remove clutch assembly.
10. Install engine lifting hook tool No. J-37307, or equivalent, to rear of engine.
11. Detach AIR tube center section from AIR hose and oil pan.
12. Remove oxygen sensors.
13. Detach lower power steering hose from oil cooler.
14. Disconnect battery ground cable from engine.
15. Remove engine mount to engine and frame attaching nut.
16. Lower vehicle, then remove air cleaner assembly and duct.
17. Disconnect oil cooler lines from oil filter housing.
18. Raise rear of engine.
19. Remove fuel tank filler cap.
20. Relieve fuel system pressure.
21. Disconnect fuel lines at fuel rail.
22. Remove evaporator housing panel and restrictor.
23. Remove righthand firewall wiring harness connector retaining bolts.
24. Disconnect engine righthand wiring harness connector.
25. Remove righthand lower instrument panel sound insulator, then disconnect right firewall connector wiring harness from under instrument.
26. Disconnect air bleed hose from at plenum.
27. Disconnect radiator upper and lower hoses.
28. Disconnect vacuum lines from power steering pump.
29. Discharge A/C refrigerant system.
30. Disconnect A/C suction and discharge line flange from A/C compressor.
31. Disconnect A/C compressor to accumulator line at accumulator.
32. Remove A/C accumulator from bracket and position aside, then remove accumulator bracket from vehicle.
33. Disconnect power steering pressure line at power steering gear.
34. Disconnect accelerator and cruise control cables from throttle body and plenum retainers.
35. Install lifting hook tool No. J-37307-1, or equivalent, to front of engine.
36. Disconnect electrical connectors from ECM.
37. Remove left front fender from vehicle.
38. Disconnect battery positive cable and remove battery hold-down, then remove battery from vehicle.
39. Disconnect engine lefthand firewall electrical connector.
40. Disconnect engine wiring harness fusible links at junction block.
41. Disconnect electrical connectors from secondary injector modules, battery positive cable junction block, differential pressure switch, A/C cutout relay, A/C high blower relay, transmission shift solenoid relay, fuel pump fuse and forward lamp link.
42. Disconnect battery positive lead, then disconnect electrical connectors at blower motor resistor, blower motor, A/C pressure sensors, A/C cooling fan switch, windshield washer pump, low coolant sensor and ESC knock sensor and sensor relay.
43. Disconnect vacuum pump hose.
44. Disconnect front and rear vacuum connectors.
45. Position engine wiring harness out of way.
46. Disconnect engine ground strap from lefthand frame rail.
47. Position battery positive out of way.
48. Remove lefthand plenum screen.
49. Disconnect vacuum hose from power brake unit.
50. Remove windshield wiper motor.
51. Remove MAP sensor and bracket from plenum.
52. Disconnect AIR hose from lefthand exhaust manifold.
53. Ensure all electrical connector and vacuum hoses that would interfere with engine removal are disconnected.
54. Attach suitable engine lifting fixture and remove engine from vehicle.
55. Reverse procedure to install.
