Trunk / Liftgate: Description and Operation

Battery voltage is applied at all times to terminal "2" of the Hatch Release Relay through the Hatch Fuse. When the LH door is opened, the Door Ajar Switch closes and provides a ground path to the Hatch Release Switch. If the Hatch Release Switch in the door is depressed when the door is opened, the Hatch Release Relay will energize and apply battery voltage to the Hatch Release Solenoid.

To operate the Hatch Release from the Hatch Release Switch in the console, the Park Brake must be "ON" (Manual Transmission) or the Transmission Position Switch must be in "PARK" or "NEUTRAL" (Automatic Transmission) to provide a ground path to energize the Hatch Release Relay.
