Driver/Vehicle Information Display: Description and Operation
The Driver Information Center (DIC) consists of various indicators as well as switches that control the fuel and trip data information. An Ambient Light Sensor is also located within the DIC to control Instrument Cluster dimming.Power for the DIC is supplied by the Cluster Fuse when the Ignition Switch is in "RUN," "BULB TEST" or "START". The voltage applied is used for the indicators. Power for the switches is supplied by the Central Control Module (CCM).
A description of the various DIC components is given starting below.
"LOW TIRE PRESSURE" Indicator
Refer to "Low Tire Pressure Warning System (LTPWS)."
"SERVICE LTPWS"
Refer to "Low Tire Pressure Warning System."
"CHECK CHARGING SYSTEM" Indicator
Refer to "Starting And Charging System." Starting and Charging
"SERVICE RIDE CONTROL" Indicator
Refer to "Ride Control." Suspension Control ( Automatic - Electronic )
"LOW COOLANT" Indicator
The Low Coolant Switch will illuminate the "LOW COOLANT" Indicator by grounding one side of the bulb when a low coolant condition exists.
"LOW OIL LEVEL" Indicator
When a low oil level is detected, the Low Oil Level Sensor will remove the ground to the CCM. The CCM will in turn ground one side of the "LOW OIL LEVEL" Indicator, illuminating it.
The CCM may wait several hours before turning on the indicator to insure that the oil has drained back into the oil pan and that a low oil condition actually exists.
"PASSIVE KEYLESS ENTRY" Indicator
Refer to Keyless Entry. Keyless Entry
"AIR BAG" Indicator
Refer to Air Bags (Supplemental Restraint Systems). Air Bag Systems
"ABS ACTIVE" Indicator
Refer to Brakes and Traction Control. Brakes and Traction Control
"ASR ACTIVE" Indicator
Refer to Brakes and Traction Control. Brakes and Traction Control
"ASR OFF" Indicator
Refer to Brakes and Traction Control. Brakes and Traction Control
"SERVICE ABS" Indicator
Refer to Brakes and Traction Control. Brakes and Traction Control
"SERVICE ASR" Indicator
Refer to Brakes and Traction Control. Brakes and Traction Control
"SERVICE ENGINE SOON" Indicator
Refer to Computers and Control Systems. Computers and Control Systems
Driver Information Switches
The CCM will detect the switch closures for the Fuel and Trip Data and the English/Metric Switches. The CCM will process this information and display the information on the Instrument Cluster Digital (ICD) display.
The CCM will set a code if a problem occurs with wires between the DIC and CCM. Switch diagnostics are contained in Central Control Module. Central Control Module
IMPORTANT: Anytime the DIC connector is disconnected and the Ignition Switch is "ON," an SIR Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTCs) 61 will be set. Refer to Computers and Control Systems on how to clear DTCs. Testing and Inspection
