Throttle Position Sensor: Adjustments

Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) Circuit Diagram:

Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) Installation/Adjustment:

TPS ADJUSTMENT
1. Loosen TPS mounting screws.
2. Install Scan tool or connect 3 jumper wires and DVM between sensor and harness connector (DVM should be connected between signal circuit and ground).
3. Turn ignition "ON" and adjust TPS position with the throttle fully closed until the output voltage is between 0.23 - 0.59 volt.
4. Tighten mounting screws and remove test equipment.

NOTE: Upon TPS or throttle body replacement, or after TPS adjustment, TPS learn procedure must be performed. The TPS learn procedure allows the Electronic Brake and Traction Control Module (EBTCM) to access accurate information from the PCM. This information is utilized to carry out ABS/ASR system functions.

TPS LEARN PROCEDURE
This procedure requires a T-1 (Tech 1) or T-100 (CAMS) unit. In this case the procedure below is for use with a TECH-1 scan tool.

1. Ignition "OFF".
2. Connect Tech 1 with Mass Storage Chassis Cartridge.
3. Ignition "ON".
4. Follow menus to reach ABS/ASR features.
5. Select "F5: TPS LEARN".
6. Press the up arrow to begin learn procedure.
7. Wait for Tech 1 to indicate "COMPLETE".
8. Turn ignition "OFF".
9. Disconnect Tech 1.
