Interior Lamps Dimming

CIRCUIT OPERATION
The Instrument Panel Dimmer Switch controls the brightness of the incandescent lamps and Vacuum Fluorescent (VF) displays. The incandescent lamps are located in various components (see wiring diagrams) and the VF displays are located in the Radio and Instrument Cluster.

INCANDESCENT DIMMING
The brightness of the incandescent lamps is determined by a variable voltage signal produced by the Light Switch.

VACUUM FLUORESCENT (VF) DIMMING
The brightness of the Vacuum Fluorescent (VF) Displays is controlled by two signals: the VF Dim Displays Signal and (CKT 9) and the VF Dimming Signal (CKT 9). With the Park Lights "ON" (VF Dim displays CKT 726) the VF display of the Radio will dim for nighttime viewing. When the VF Dim Display Signal is not present (Park Lights OFF"), the VF display is at high brightness for daytime viewing.

When the Park Lights are "ON," the Headlight Switch provides a Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) signal (VF Dimming Signal CKT 230) which controls the brightness of the VF displays when the I/P Dimmer Switch is adjusted.

If the lip Dimmer Switch is moved to "INT" or (with Park Lights "ON") the VF display will be at high brightness for daytime viewing.

DELAYED ILLUMINATION
The Interior Lights will come "ON" for approximately 30 seconds when the last door is closed (Dome Light "OFF") or when the Dome Light Switch is moved to off (all doors closed). This feature is a product of the Headlight Switch.
