Air Cleaner Housing: Description and Operation

OPERATION
Outside air is drawn through the snorkel duct, intermediate duct, air cleaner, air cleaner outlet duct and throttle body unit. The air is then directed into the plenum intake runners, cylinder head and into the cylinders.

This system utilizes a front mounted resonator to limit induction noise. Engine events send noise waves out through the induction system. The resonator modifies certain frequency noise waves. These modified noise waves, (1800 out of phase), return to cancel newly formed engine event noise waves, resulting in lower audible induction noise. Removal of the resonator would result in increased induction noise, especially upon acceleration.
