Troubleshooting Hints - Digital Cluster
PERFORM BEFORE BEGINNING SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS:1. Check I/P Fuses #11, #20, #33 and #42.
2. Check the indicator bulbs.
3. If more than one indicator is out, check the Instrument Cluster Printed Circuit for flaws.
4. Check that grounds G104, GlO6, G200, G202 and G300 are clean and tight.
5. If any segment of Speedometer fails to illuminate, send cluster out for repair.
^ Check for a broken (or partially broken) wire inside of the insulation which could cause system malfunction but prove "GOOD" in a continuity/voltage check with a system disconnected. These circuits may be intermittent or resistive when loaded, and if possible, should be checked by monitoring for a voltage drop with the system operational (under load).
^ Check for proper installation of aftermarket electronic equipment which may affect the integrity of other systems (refer to "General Troubleshooting Procedures,"). Diagnostic Aids
^ Refer to System Diagnosis. System Diagnosis - Digital Cluster
Speedometer Segments Fails To Dims
If the Speedometer segments fail to dim, perform the following check:
^ Remove Instrument Cluster, disconnect Instrument Cluster connector C1. Check for varying voltage on terminal "A4" while turning dimming wheel, with Headlamp Switch in "PARK."
- 0 volts: Repair open in CKT 8 to source {Special Equipment Option (SEO) Only}.
- Voltage present: Check for battery voltage on terminal "B2" of Instrument Cluster connector C2.
- 0 volts: Repair open in CKT 32.
- Voltage present: Service Instrument Cluster.
Instrument Cluster Is Partially Or Completely Inoperative
If the Instrument Cluster is not operating properly, perform the following checks:
^ Check terminals "A5," "B6," and "A11" of Instrument Cluster connector C2, and terminal "B2" of Instrument Cluster connector C1 for battery voltage.
- No voltage one or more terminals: Repair open circuit to Fuse Block.
- Battery voltage all terminals: Service Instrument Cluster.
^ Check terminals "A6" and "B4" of Instrument Cluster connector C2, and terminal "B3" of Instrument Cluster connector C1 for continuity to ground.
- No continuity to ground on one or more terminals: Repair open circuit to ground.
- Continuity to ground all terminals: Service Instrument Cluster.
