DTC 68
Fig. 380 Code 68: Left Front EMB Circuit Shorted To Battery Or Driver Open:
Left Front EMB Circuit Shorted To Battery Or Driver Open:
Circuit Description:
This DTC is designed to detect shorts to battery, shorts in the EMB release circuit, or an open EMB driver. These malfunctions will not allow the EMB to be energized (released) when needed.
DTC Will Set When:
DTC 68 can be set only when the left front EMB is commanded "ON" (released). A malfunction exists if an excessive voltage drop is across the motor driver for the left front EMB.
Action Taken:
A malfunction DTC is stored, ABS is disabled and the "ABS" warning lamp is turned "ON."
DTC Chart Test Description:
Number(s) below refer to circled number(s) on the diagnostic chart.
1. Checks to see if the malfunction is currently present.
2. Identifies a short to voltage in the EMB control circuitry.
3. Checks for an EMB that has lower than normal resistance.
4. Checks for a short between the EMB battery feed and control circuits.
5. Ensures malfunction was not due to physical damage of the circuitry.
Diagnostic Aids:
An "intermittent" malfunction is most likely caused by a poor connection, rubbed through wire insulation, or a wire that is broken inside the insulation.
The frequency of the malfunction can be checked by using the enhanced diagnostic function of the Tech 1.
Any circuitry, that is suspected as causing the intermittent complaint, should be thoroughly checked for backed out terminals, improper mating, broken locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals, poor terminal to wiring connections or physical damage to the wiring harness.
