Removal and Installation

Description:






1. Disconnect battery ground cable.

2. Install engine support fixture. Connect fixture hook to engine lift ring and raise engine enough to relieve weight from engine mounts. The engine support fixture must be positioned in the center of the cowl and the attaching parts properly tightened before supporting engine.

3. Remove left sound insulator from under instrument panel, then disconnect clutch master cylinder push rod from clutch pedal.

4. Remove clutch slave cylinder from transaxle support and position aside.

5. Remove transaxle mount attaching bolts.

6. Remove transaxle mount bracket attaching bolts and nuts.

7. Disconnect shift cables and remove retaining clips at transaxle.

8. Disconnect ground cable at transaxle mounting stud, then the shift light wiring.

9. Raise and support vehicle, then remove left front wheel.

10. Remove left front inner splash shield retaining screws and the splash shield.

11. Disconnect both front ABS wheel speed sensor harness connectors and move left side harness out of the way.

12. Remove transaxle front strut and front strut bracket.

13. Remove clutch housing cover attaching bolts, then disconnect speedometer cable at transaxle.

14. Disconnect stabilizer bar at the left suspension support and control arm.

15. Remove left side support attaching bolts, then swing support aside.

16. Install boot protectors at drive axles, then disengage both drive axles at transaxle. Remove left drive axle from transaxle housing bore.

17. Attach the transaxle case to a suitable jack, then remove transaxle to engine mounting bolts.

18. Slide transaxle away from engine, lower jack and guide right drive axle from transaxle housing bore. Remove transaxle from vehicle.

19. Reverse procedure to install. When installing transaxle, guide the right drive axle into transaxle bore as transaxle is being raised. The right drive axle cannot be installed after the transaxle is connected to engine.
