Engine Removal and Installation

Engine Mount Assembly (3100 Engine With 4T60-E Automatic Transaxle:

Engine Mount Assembly(3100 Engine With 3T40 Automatic Transaxle):

Remove or Disconnect

CAUTION: Refer to Service Precautions.

1. Battery negative cable assembly.
2. Hood panel assembly.
3. Drain engine coolant.
4. Air cleaner and duct assembly.
5. Transaxle fluid filler tube assembly.
6. Engine mount strut brackets.
7. Raise and suitably support vehicle.
8. Drain engine oil.
9. Front exhaust manifold pipe. Front exhaust manifold pipe heat shield.
10. Lower rear transaxle bolt/screw.
11. Electrical connector from vehicle speed sensor (VSS).
12. Engine mount frame side nuts.
13. Flywheel inspection cover.
14. Starter motor assembly.
15. Torque converter bolts/screws.
16. Transaxle mount assembly.
17. Lower vehicle.
18. Coolant reservoir recovery assembly.
19. Serpentine drive belt.
20. Accelerator control and cruise control servo cable assemblies from throttle body assembly.
21. Accelerator control cable bracket and move cable assemblies aside.
22. Power brake booster vacuum hose from upper intake manifold assembly.
23. Plastic cover from shock tower.
24. Generator front and rear braces.
25. Generator assembly.
26. Fuel feed and return pipe assemblies.
27. Tie straps around ignition wiring harness assembly and engine mount strut and air conditioning compressor bracket.
28. Power steering pump pulley assembly.
29. Power steering pump bolts/screws and move pump assembly aside.
30. Heater outlet and inlet hose assemblies.
31. Upper radiator hose assembly from engine assembly.
32. Lower radiator hose assembly from coolant pump assembly.
33. Engine mount strut and air conditioning compressor bracket bolts/screws and move compressor assembly aside.
34. Automatic transaxle vacuum modulator pipe assembly.
35. Electrical connectors from the following sensors:
- Knock
- Oxygen
- Coolant Temperature
- Camshaft
- Crankshaft
- Wheel Speed

36. Electrical connectors from ignition coil assembly.
37. Electrical connectors from idle air control valve and throttle position sensor.
38. Vacuum hoses from upper intake manifold assembly.
39. Transaxle bolts/screws.
40. Install safety bolt between generator bracket and engine lift bracket assemblies.
41. Suitably support transaxle assembly with floor stands.
42. Attach engine lifting device.
43. Engine assembly from vehicle.

Install or Connect
1. Engine assembly to vehicle.
2. Remove engine lifting device.
3. Remove floor stands from transaxle assembly.
4. Remove safety bolt from generator bracket and front engine lift bracket assemblies.
5. Transaxle bolts/screws.
6. Vacuum hoses to upper intake manifold assembly.
7. Electrical connectors to idle air control valve and throttle position sensor.
8. Electrical connectors to ignition coil assembly.
9. Electrical connectors to the following sensors:
- Knock
- Oxygen
- Coolant Temperature
- Camshaft
- Crankshaft
- Wheel Speed

10. Automatic transaxle vacuum modulator pipe assembly.
11. Position compressor assembly and engine mount strut and air conditioning compressor bracket bolts/screws.
12. Lower radiator hose assembly to coolant pump assembly.
13. Upper radiator hose assembly to engine assembly.
14. Heater outlet and inlet hose assemblies.
15. Position power steering pump assembly and install power steering pump bolts/screws.
16. Power steering pump pulley assembly.
17. Tie straps around ignition wiring harness and engine mount strut and air conditioning compressor bracket.
18. Fuel feed and return pipe assemblies.
19. Generator assembly.
20. Generator front and rear braces.
21. Position cable assemblies and install accelerator control cable bracket. Accelerator control and cruise control servo cable assemblies to throttle body assembly.
22. Serpentine drive belt.
23. Coolant recovery reservoir assembly.
24. Raise and suitably support vehicle.
25. Transaxles mount to engine block.
26. Torque converter bolts/screws.
27. Starter motor assembly.
28. Flywheel inspection cover.
29. Engine mount frame side nuts to drivetrain and front suspension assembly.
30. Electrical connector to vehicle speed sensor.
31. Lower rear transaxle bolt/screw.
32. Front exhaust manifold pipe heat shield.
33. Front exhaust manifold pipe.
34. Lower vehicle.
35. Refill with engine oil.
36. Engine mount strut brackets.
37. Transaxle fluid filler tube assembly.
38. Air cleaner and duct assembly.
39. Hood panel assembly.
40. Refill with engine coolant and add two engine coolant sealant pellets, GM P/N 3634621, or equivalent.
41. Bleed coolant system.
