TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATIONTools Required:

^ J 28467-90 Engine Support Fixture Adapter
^ J 35944 Oil Cooler and Line Flusher
^ J 36462 Engine Support
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Hood panel assembly.
2. Transaxle fluid level indicator assembly.
3. Engine mount strut brackets.
4. Electric engine cooling fan assemblies.
5. Install J 28467-A, J 28467-90 and J 36462.
6. Air intake duct assembly.
7. Automatic transaxle vacuum modulator pipe assembly.
8. Electrical connectors from transaxle assembly.
9. Transaxle range selector assembly from transaxle assembly.
10. Upper transaxle-to-engine bolts/screws.
11. Raise and suitably support vehicle.
12. Tire and wheel assembly.
13. Left front bumper fascia splash shield assembly.
14. Front exhaust manifold pipe.
15. Steering gear heat shield assembly.
16. Steering gear bolts/screws.
17. Front lower control arm assemblies from front suspension strut assemblies.
18. Power steering fluid cooling pipe assembly.
19. Suitably support drivetrain and front suspension frame assembly with floor stands.
20. Transaxle mount side bracket nuts.
21. Engine mount frame side nuts.
22. Transaxle brace.
23. Drivetrain and front suspension frame bolts/screws.
24. Drivetrain and front suspension frame assembly.
25. Electrical connector from vehicle speed sensor.
26. Front wheel driveshaft assemblies from transaxle assembly.
27. Transaxle converter cover assembly.
28. Starter motor assembly.
29. Transaxle torque converter bolts/screws.
30. Transaxle oil cooler upper and lower pipe assemblies.
31. Install transaxle jack.
32. Transaxle mount assembly from engine assembly.
33. Transaxle fluid filler tube assembly.
34. Transaxle-to-engine bolt/screw.
35. Transaxle assembly.
36. Transaxle torque converter assembly from transaxle assembly.
37. Transaxle assembly from transaxle jack.
IMPORTANT
^ Transaxle oil cooler hoses and pipe assemblies should be flushed with J 35944 or equivalent whenever the transaxle assembly is removed for overhaul or replacement of the transaxle torque converter assembly, transaxle pump or case assemblies.
Converter To Flywheel:
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Transaxle assembly to transaxle jack.
2. Transaxle torque converter assembly to transaxle assembly.
3. Transaxle assembly.
4. Lower rear transaxle-to-engine bolt/screw.
Tighten
^ Bolts/screws to 75 N.m (55 lb. ft.).
5. Transaxle fluid filler tube assembly.
6. Transaxle mount to engine assembly.
7. Remove jackstand from transaxle assembly.
8. Transaxle oil cooler upper and lower pipe assemblies.
9. Transaxle torque converter bolts/screws.
Tighten
^ Bolts/screws to 63 N.m (46 lb. ft.).
10. Starter motor assembly.
11. Transaxle converter cover assembly.
12. Transaxle converter cover bolts/screws.
Tighten
^ Bolts/screws to 10 N.m (89 lb. in.).
13. Front wheel drive shaft assemblies to transaxle assembly.
14. Electrical connector to vehicle speed sensor.
15. Drivetrain and front suspension frame assembly.
16. Drivetrain and front suspension frame bolts/screws.
Tighten
^ Bolts/screws to 145 N.m (107 lb. ft.).
17. Transaxle brace.
18. Transaxle mount side bracket nuts.
19. Remove floor stands from drivetrain and front suspension frame assembly.
20. Power steering fluid cooling pipe assembly.
21. Front lower control arm assemblies to front suspension strut assemblies.
22. Steering gear bolts/screws.
23. Steering gear heat shield assembly.
24. Front exhaust manifold pipe.
25. Left front bumper fascia splash shield assembly.
26. Tire and wheel assemblies.
27. Lower vehicle.
28. Upper transaxle-to-engine bolts/screws.
Tighten
^ Bolts/screws to 75 N.m (55 lb. ft.).
29. Transaxle range selector assembly to transaxle assembly.
30. Electrical connectors to transaxle assembly.
31. Automatic transaxle vacuum modulator pipe assembly.
32. Air intake duct assembly.
33. Remove J 28467-A, J 28467-90 and J 36462.
34. Electrical engine cooling fan assemblies.
35. Engine mount strut brackets.
36. Transaxle fluid level indicator assembly.
37. Hood panel assembly.
ADJUST
^ Fluid level.
^ Shift linkage.
INSPECT
^ For proper completion of repairs.
^ Fluid leaks.
