Battery Tray and Hold-Down Retainer

The battery tray and hold-down retainer should be clean and free from corrosion before installing the battery.

The battery tray should be in a sound condition so that it will hold the battery securely and keep it level. Make certain there are no parts in the battery tray before installing battery.

To prevent the battery from shaking in its battery tray, the hold-down retainer should be tight, but not over-tightened.
