General Description

The dual zone A/C (CJ2) system is designed to provide a comfortable environment inside the passenger compartment, regardless of weather conditions outside the vehicle. The system does this by cooling, dehumidifying, heating and circulating the air that enters the passenger compartment, as necessary.

The system consist of four different major parts: the refrigeration system, heater system, air distribution system and the mode/temperature control system.

Most aspects of the refrigeration, heater and air distribution systems that are unique to vehicles equipped with dual zone A/C are discussed here, along with the mode/temperature control systems.

Vehicles equipped with the dual zone A/C system may also be equipped with steering wheel controls (UK3) that operate some A/C system and radio functions.
