Daytime Running Lamps (DRL)

The Daytime Running Lamps Module is designed to automatically operate certain lamps depending on outside light conditions. The module operates in two modes. In the "Day" mode, the low-beam headlamps are on at reduced brilliance. In the "Night" mode, the headlamps are on at full brilliance and the front sidemarker, park, and taillamps are lit. When the Daytime Running Lamp Module is in the "Day" mode, the Daytime Running Lamp Switch is closed, applying voltage to the dropping diodes and the low-beam headlamps. The dropping diode reduces the voltage applied to the headlamps, reducing the headlamp brilliance. When the photoresistor senses darkness, the Daytime Running Lamps Module operates in the "Night" mode. The Daytime Running Lamps Switch opens and the headlamp switch and park lamps switch close. Voltage is applied to the headlamps and other exterior lamps through the same circuit path as when the headlamp switch is on.
