Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Courtesy Lamps

The courtesy lights (dome lamp and the inside rearview mirror reading lights) illuminate when any door is open, or when the I/P dimmer switch is in the DOME position.

The dome lamp and the inside rearview mirror reading lights receive voltage at all times from Fuse 28 through circuit 240. The dome lamp and the inside rearview mirror reading lights receive ground from the headlamp switch through circuit 156.

The headlamp switch grounds circuit 156 when any door lock grounds circuit 49, or when receiving a voltage signal from the I/P dimmer switch. When a door is open, the door lock (of the corresponding open door) grounds circuit 49. When the I/P dimmer switch is in the DOME position, it sends a voltage signal to the headlamp switch.

The inside rearview mirror reading lights have two switches. These switches, one for each light, allow individual light operation anytime. These switches, when turned to the on position, provide ground to their corresponding light through circuit 150.
