Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

General Description

The Passlock (TM) System is designed to prevent vehicle operation if the mechanical key is not used to start the vehicle. The mechanical key, in normal operation, will turn the Passlock Lock Cylinder. The Passlock Lock Cylinder will relay Passlock Cylinder Data to the Body Function Controller (BFC). The BFC will determine the validity of the Passlock Cylinder Data within a preset time window started from an Ignition Switch input and will send a coded password to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). When the PCM receives the correct code, it will allow the Fuel Injectors to operate normally.

The Functional Name Address (FNA) of the Body Function Controller includes the term BFC. The FNA is the name used by Service Parts Operations to issue parts. Therefore, in order to minimize confusion while ordering parts, usage of the terminology Body BFC has been retained in this service manual.
