Condition 3
WHEN A KEY DETECTION CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION IS PRESENTThe theft deterrent module performs the following actions when a key detection circuit (circuits 1073 and 1074) malfunction (open, or short to voltage or ground) occurs:
^ Turns ON the SECURITY indicator by grounding circuit 728.
^ In addition, the theft deterrent module performs one of two actions:
A. If the key detection circuit (circuits 1073 and 1074) is open, or short to voltage or ground when attempting to start the engine, the theft deterrent module sends a password to the PCM through circuit 229 to disable fuel delivery to the engine. Also, the theft deterrent module disables the theft deterrent relay (opening circuit 625). The vehicle will exhibit an engine no-crank condition.
B. If the key detection circuit is open (circuits 1073 and 1074), or short to voltage or ground after the engine has started, the theft deterrent module enters a fail-enable mode. Upon subsequent engine start attempts, the theft deterrent module will send a password to the PCM through circuit 229 to enable fuel delivery to the engine. Also, the theft deterrent module enables the theft deterrent relay by grounding circuit 625. The engine will start.
