Sunroof / Moonroof: Description and Operation

The sunroof switch on the overhead console controls the position of the sunroof. The sunroof panel may be slid open or closed.

When the sunroof switch is moved to OPEN, voltage is applied to the sunroof actuator. The actuator is grounded through the CLOSE position and the actuator turns, driving the sunroof back (from sliding). Operation in the close direction is similar.

The sunroof will automatically stop in the fully open or closed position when approaching from the sliding positions. The fully open or closed position is stopped mechanically through the drain channel. For example, if the roof is opening from the closed position, the open position will energize the actuator, which will cause the roof to open. When the roof reaches the fully open position. the actuator stalls out.

To continue operation of the sunroof, the driver must release the sunroof switch. The actuator resets and when the sunroof switch is pushed again, the roof will slide closed.
