Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

CAUTION:
^ This vehicle has a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Refer to SIR Component Location View in order to determine whether you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring. When you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, refer to SIR On-Vehicle Service information. Failure to follow the CAUTIONS could cause air bag deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.
^ Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition key must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads must be OFF, unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.


1. Record all of the vehicle preset radio stations (if applicable). Refer to Radio Operating Instructions in Audio Systems. Description and Operation
2. Record the customer's radio Theftlock(R) code (if applicable). Refer to Theft Deterrent Feature in Audio Systems.
3. Turn OFF all the lamps and accessories.
4. Make sure the ignition switch is OFF.
5. Remove the battery ground (negative) cable with the battery ground (negative) terminal bolt from the battery.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

Important: Clean any existing oxidation from the contact face of the battery terminal and battery cable using a wire brush before installing the battery cable to the battery terminal.

1. Attach the battery ground (negative) cable to battery with the battery ground (negative) terminal bolt.

Tighten
Tighten the battery ground (negative) terminal bolt to 15 N.m (11 lb ft).

2. Unlock the Theftlock� radio (if applicable). Refer to Theft Deterrent Feature in Audio Systems.
3. Program the radio stations back into the radio as recorded at the beginning of the procedure.
4. Set the clock to the current time.
