Preliminary Information - Starting System
CAUTION:^ Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Cautions and Notices.
^ Refer to SIR Handling Caution in Cautions and Notices.
If the engine does not crank and there is no sound from the starter motor, refer to Theft Deterrent System: Pass Key II in Electrical Diagnosis. If the starter motor clicks or the engine cranks slowly, perform the following checks before beginning diagnosis: Antitheft and Alarm Systems
^ Battery - Load test the battery. Refer to Battery Load Test Battery Load Test
^ Wiring - Inspect the wiring for damage. Inspect all connections to the starter motor, solenoid, battery, and all ground connections. Clean and tighten the connections as required.
^ Engine - Make sure the engine is not seized.
^ If the starter solenoid still clicks and the engine does not crank, refer to Starter Solenoid Clicks, Engine Does Not Crank. Starter Solenoid Clicks, Engine Does Not Crank
^ If the engine still cranks but does not start, refer to Engine Cranks/Cranks Slowly, but Does Not Start. Engine Cranks/Cranks Slowly, But Does Not Start
