INFORMATION

Subject:
Correct PCM Service Part Number

Models:
1999 Chevrolet Camaro
1999 Pontiac Firebird
with 3.8L Engine (VIN K - RPO L36) and Built within the following VIN Breakpoints:

From VIN To Vin
Division Last 6 Digits Last 6 Digits

Chevrolet 100001 117311
Pontiac 200001 213346

Some of the above listed vehicles were built with mis-labeled Powertrain Control Modules (PCM). The service part number (# 9361735) printed on the PCM label is Incorrect. The correct part number for a replacement PCM is # 9374997.

In the event that an incorrect (# 9361735) PCM is installed in a vehicle, it will not contain the Electronic Throttle Control software. The vehicle will start, but there would be no throttle response and engine will stay at Idle speed.

Important:
GMSPO parts catalogs released prior to January 1, 1999 will show incorrect part number # 09351735 as the service replacement number for PCMs in the 1999 F-cars. GMSPO will release parts catalogs for the F-cars (Chevrolet Camaro - February 25, 1999, Pontiac Firebird - March 3, 1999 and will be on the corresponding month's CD ROM) in which the service parts replacement number will be changed to the correct # 09374997.
