Evaporator Core Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

TOOLS REQUIRED
J 39500-B A/C Refrigerant Recovery, Recharging, and Recycling Station

1. Recover the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in Service Precautions.
4. Remove the HVAC module.
5. Place the HVAC module on a workbench.
6. Remove the heater core shroud (1) and straps (4).
7. Remove the evaporator assembly (17).

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

1. Install the evaporator assembly.

Tighten
Tighten the screw to 1.4 Nm (12 lb in).

2. Install the heater core shroud (1) and straps (4).

Tighten
Tighten the screw to 1.4 Nm (12 lb in).

3. Install the heater core cover (6).

Tighten
Tighten the screw(s) to 1.4 Nm (12 lb in).

4. Install the floor duct.
5. Install the instrument panel and console.
6. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in Service Precautions.
7. Install the evaporator inlet line.

Tighten
Tighten the inlet fitting to 19 Nm (14 lb ft).

8. Install the evaporator outlet line.

Tighten
Tighten the outlet fitting to 48 Nm (35 lb ft).

9. Install the drain tube.
10. Lower the vehicle.

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

11. Connect the negative battery cable.

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 16 Nm (12 lb ft).

12. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
