Draining the Power Steering System

1. Raise the front of the vehicle off of the ground. Ensure that the front wheels are free to turn.
2. Remove the power steering return line at the power steering pump.
3. Plug the power steering return port on the power steering pump.
4. Position the power steering return line toward a large container in order to contain the draining fluid.
5. Perform the following procedure:
5.1. Start the engine.
5.2. Run the engine at idle.
5.3. Have second person simultaneously fill the power steering reservoir with standard power steering fluid or optional cold climate fluid.
6. Turn the steering wheel from stop-to-stop. Ensure that all of the old power steering fluid is cleared from the power steering system.

NOTICE: Do not hold the steering wheel against the stops while flushing the power steering system. Holding the steering wheel against the wheel stops will cause high system pressure, overheating, and damage to the power steering pump and/or gear.

7. Add approximately 0.968L (1 qt.) in order to flush the power steering system.
8. Unplug the power steering pump return port.
9. Reconnect the power steering return line.
10. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
11. Fill the reservoir to the FULL COLD mark.
12. Bleed the power steering system.
