Brake Transmission Shift Interlock Replacement

Removal Procedure

Important: The automatic transmission control lever solenoid is a part of the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) system. The solenoid prevents the operator from shifting the automatic transmission control out of the (P) PARK position, unless the brake pedal is depressed.

Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Remove the front and the rear console assembly. Refer to Console Replacement in Body and Frame, Interior Trim, Console.





2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the shift interlock solenoid (2).





3. Remove the indicator bulb (2).
4. Remove the 2 screws that retain the shift indicator cover (1).
5. Raise and rotate the shift indicator cover to access 2 retaining screws on the shift interlock solenoid.
6. Remove the 2 screws and the shift interlock solenoid.

Installation Procedure
1. Install the shift interlock solenoid and the 2 screws.





2. Rotate the shift indicator cover (1) back to the original position and firmly snap downward.
3. Install the 2 screws.





4. Connect the electrical connector to the shift interlock solenoid (2).
5. Connect the indicator bulb.
6. Install the rear floor console. Refer to Console Replacement in Body and Frame, Interior Trim, Console.
7. Connect the negative battery cable.
