Exhaust System Service


Removal Procedure





1. Raise the vehicle and support. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the rear stabilizer shaft bolts, nuts and clamps.
3. Position the stabilizer shaft downward.

Important: The exhaust system must be cold.





4. Remove the intermediate exhaust pipe to the rear exhaust pipe bolts.





5. Remove the muffler from the muffler hanger.
6. Remove the muffler from the vehicle.

Caution: Refer to Safety Glasses and Compressed Air Caution in Service Precautions.

7. Wire brush the affected area to remove flaking and peeling paint.
8. Apply compressed air to the repair area.
9. Sand the affected area with 80 to 150 grit sandpaper to remove rust, dirt or other contaminants.
10. Apply compressed air to the repair area.
11. Clean the affected area with a wax and grease remover.
12. Apply paint to the affected area. Follow the manufactures instructions.
13. Allow the paint to dry.


Installation Procedure





1. Install the muffler to the vehicle. Refer to Muffler Replacement.





2. Reposition the rear stabilizer shaft to the crossmember.
3. Install the rear stabilizer shaft to the vehicle. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Replacement in Steering and Suspension.

Important: Some smoking will occur while curing the paint with the engine is running, be careful not to get the exhaust system wet during the first 30 minutes.

4. In a well ventilated area, start the engine and allow to idle for up to 30 minutes until the paint is cured.
The paint can be cured while driving.
