Lubricant Change

Draining Procedure





1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Clean any dirt from around the differential drain plug.
3. Remove the drain plug from the differential.
4. Drain the fluid into a container.

Filling Procedure

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





1. Install the drain plug to the differential.
Tighten the differential drain plug to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).





2. Clean any dirt from around the differential fill plug.
3. Remove the fill plug from the differential.
4. Fill the differential with fluid.
^ Use synthetic axle lubricant GM P/N 12378261 or equivalent meeting GM specification 9986115 to approximately 1.6 L (1.69 qt.).
^ Use limited-slip differential lubricant additive GM P/N 1052358 or equivalent to approximately 118 ml. (4.0 oz.).
5. Check the fluid level to ensure it is even with the bottom of the fill plug hole to no lower than 6 mm (0.25 inch) below the opening.





6. Install the fill plug to the differential.
Tighten the differential fill plug to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).
7. Lower the vehicle.
