Instrument Panel Carrier Replacement

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in Restraint Systems.
3. Remove the windshield garnish moldings.
4. Remove the defroster grille.
5. Remove the instrument panel compartment.
6. Remove the left front and right sound insulators.
7. Remove the passenger side SIR inflator module.
8. Remove the steering wheel.
9. Remove the multifunction switch.
10. Remove the cluster trim plate.
11. Remove the accessory trim plate.
12. Remove the instrument panel cluster.
13. Remove the HVAC controls.
14. Remove the radio and the remote cassette player, if equipped.
15. Remove the ignition switch.
16. Remove the upper pillar garnish moldings.




17. Remove the center console. Pull the console rearward in order to disengage the console from the instrument panel (1).
18. Remove the ashtray and assembly.
Disconnect the electrical connector.
19. Remove the screws (2,3,4) connecting the instrument panel (1) to the tie bar (6).
Disconnect the electrical connectors for the fuse blocks and power trunk switch.
20. Remove the instrument panel (1) from the tie bar (6).

Installation Procedure




1. Install the instrument panel (1) to the tie bar (6).
2. Install the screws (2,3,4) connecting the instrument panel (1) to the tie bar (6).
Connect the electrical connectors for the fuse blocks and power trunk switch.
3. Connect the electrical connector
Install the ashtray and housing assembly.
4. Install the center console.
5. Install the upper pillar garnish molding.
6. Install the ignition switch.
7. Install the radio and the remote cassette player, if needed.
8. Install the HVAC controls.
9. Install the instrument panel cluster.
10. Install the cluster trim plate.
11. Install the accessory trim plate.
12. Install the multifunction switch.
13. Install the steering wheel.
14. Install the passenger side SIR inflator module.
15. Install the left and right sound insulators.
16. Install the instrument panel compartment.
17. Install the defroster grille.
18. Install the windshield garnish moldings.
19. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in Restraint Systems.
