Flushing the Power Steering System

1. Raise the front end of the vehicle off of the ground until the wheels are free to turn.
2. Remove the inlet connector port on the pump reservoir inlet connector.
3. Plug the inlet connector port on the pump reservoir.
4. Position the fluid return line toward a large container in order to catch the draining fluid.
5. While an assistant fills the reservoir with standard power steering fluid or optional cold climate fluid, start the engine at idle.

Notice: Do not hold the steering wheel against the stops while flushing the power steering system. Holding the steering wheel against the wheel stops will cause high system pressure, overheating, and damage to the power steering pump/or gear.

6. Turn the steering wheel from stop-to-stop
7. Continue draining the fluid until all of the old fluid is cleared from the power steering system. Add one quart of new fluid in order to flush the system.
8. Unplug the pump reservoir inlet. Reconnect the return line.
9. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Bleeding the Power Steering System.
