Compressor Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

IMPORTANT: When installing a new compressor, add 60 ml (2.0 fl oz) of refrigerant oil to the refrigeration system, plus the amount drained from the old compressor.




1. Discharge and recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging. Service and Repair
2. Loosen the drive belt tension by turning the tensioner clockwise.
3. Remove the compressor serpentine drive belt.




4. Disconnect the compressor clutch electrical connector (4).
5. Remove the one bolt (2) and the compressor and condenser hose assembly (1) from the compressor.

IMPORTANT: Cap the open fittings to prevent dirt and moisture from entering the refrigeration system.

6. Remove the compressor upper mounting bolt (5).
7. Raise and suitably support vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in Vehicle Lifting.
8. Remove the right side engine splash shield.
9. Remove the two compressor lower mounting bolts (6) and the compressor from the vehicle.
10. If the compressor is to be replaced, drain and measure the amount of oil in the compressor.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.




1. Install the compressor to the vehicle. Secure the compressor with the two lower mounting bolts (6).

Tighten
Tighten the compressor lower mounting bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

2. Install the right side engine splash shield.
3. Lower the vehicle.
4. Install the compressor upper mounting bolt (5).

Tighten
Tighten the compressor upper mounting bolt to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

5. Install new O-rings lubricated with mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil to the compressor and condenser hose assembly.
6. Install the compressor and condenser hose assembly (1) to the compressor.

Tighten
Tighten the compressor and condenser hose assembly bolt (2) to 47 N.m (35 lb ft).

7. Connect the compressor clutch electrical connector (4).
8. Install the compressor serpentine drive belt.




9. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging. Service and Repair
10. Operate the A/C system and test for refrigerant leaks. Refer to Leak Testing. Leak Testing
