MB3 - 3 Speed Automatic Transmission
Removal ProcedureCaution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.
1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
2. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
3. Remove the 6 bolts and the left splash shield (1) from the vehicle.
4. Remove the 1 nut, the 1 lock washer (3) and the shift select cable (1) from the manual lever (2).
5. Remove the PNP switch electrical connector (1) from the PNP switch.
6. Remove the 1 nut, the 1 lock washer and the manual lever from the manual shaft.
7. Unstake the lock plate behind the manual shaft nut (1).
8. Remove the manual shaft nut and lock plate from the PNP switch (3).
9. Remove the 2 bolts and the PNP switch from the transaxle (2).
Installation Procedure
1. Install the PNP switch to the transaxle (2). Secure with kite 2 bolts. Do not tighten fully.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
2. Install the lock plate and the manual shaft nut (2) onto the PNP switch (3).
^ Tighten the manual shaft nut to 6.9 Nm (61 inch lbs.).
3. Stake the lock plate over the manual shaft nut (1).
4. Adjust the PNP switch by aligning the neutral basic line scribed in the PNP switch with the groove in the PNP switch sleeve (1).
^ Tighten the Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch bolts to 5.4 Nm (48 inch lbs.).
5. Install the manual lever onto the manual shaft. Secure the manual lever with one lock washer and 1 nut.
^ Tighten the manual lever nut to 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.).
6. Install the PNP switch electrical connector (1) to the PNP switch.
7. Install the shift select cable (1) to the manual lever. Secure with the 1 lock washer and 1 nut (3).
8. Adjust the shift select cable.
9. Install the left splash shield (1) to the vehicle. Secure the splash shield with the 6 bolts.
^ Tighten the left splash shield bolts to 5 Nm (44 inch lbs.).
10. Lower the vehicle.
11. Connect the negative battery cable.
12. Apply the parking brake and block the vehicle wheels.
13. With the manual selector in Park position, turn the ignition switch to START and verify that the starter motor operates.
14. Stop engine and return the ignition switch to the ON position.
15. Move the manual selector from the Park position to the Neutral position and verify that the starter motor operates.
16. Verify that the starter motor DOES NOT operate in D, 2, or R.
17. Connect the negative battery cable.
