Compartment Replacement - IP
Removal Procedure
1. Open the instrument panel (IP) passenger compartment door.
2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the IP compartment lamp switch.
3. Remove the trim plugs from the bottom of the compartment door.
Reach behind the compartment door and push the plugs out; use a suitable flat bladed tool on the front side to remove the plugs, if necessary.
4. Remove the IP compartment lower retaining bolts.
5. Remove the IP compartment side and upper retaining screws.
6. Slowly remove the IP compartment from the IP just enough to disconnect the wiring harness connector (2) from the inflatable restraint module switch (3).
7. Remove the IP compartment from the IP.
Installation Procedure
1. Connect the wiring harness connector (2) to the inflatable restraint IP module switch (3) connector.
2. Install the IP compartment to the IP.
3. Loosely install the screw which retains the side of the IP compartment, in order to align the nut on the passenger SIR bracket.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
4. Install the IP compartment upper retaining screw.
Tighten the IP compartment upper retaining screw to 1.9 N.m (17 lb in).
5. Install the IP compartment lower retaining bolts.
Tighten the IP compartment lower retaining bolts to 12 N.m (106 lb in).
6. Align and hold the IP compartment to the IP, then tighten the IP compartment side retaining screw.
Tighten the IP compartment side retaining screw to 1.9 N.m (17 lb in).
7. Install the trim plugs to the IP compartment door.
8. Connect the electrical connector to the IP compartment lamp switch.
9. Close the IP passenger compartment door.
