Fuel Filter: Service and Repair
REMOVAL PROCEDURE1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure.
NOTE: Refer to Cover and Plug Openings Notice in Service Precautions.
IMPORTANT:
- There is not a service interval for in-pipe fuel filter replacement. Only replace the in-pipe fuel filter if it is restricted.
- Always maintain cleanliness when servicing fuel system components.
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
3. Remove the quick-connect fitting at the inlet of the fuel filter.
4. Remove the threaded nut fitting at the outlet of the fuel filter.
5. Drain any remaining fuel into an approved gasoline container.
6. Remove the fuel filter mounting bracket bolt.
7. Remove the fuel filter mounting bracket and the fuel filter.
8. Remove the fuel filter from the mounting bracket.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Remove the protective caps from the new fuel filter.
NOTE: Refer to Fuel System Ground Notice in Service Precautions.
2. Install the fuel filter to the mounting bracket.
3. Install the fuel filter mounting bracket and the fuel filter.
4. Install the fuel filter mounting bracket bolt.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).
5. Install the threaded nut fitting at the outlet of the fuel filter.
Tighten
Use a back-up wrench in order to prevent the fuel filter from turning. Tighten the threaded nut fitting to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).
6. Connect the quick-connect fitting at the inlet of the fuel filter.
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Tighten the fuel tank filler pipe cap.
9. Connect the negative battery cable.
10. Inspect the fuel system for leaks by performing the following steps:
10.1. Turn ON the ignition for 2 seconds.
10.2. Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds.
10.3. Turn ON the ignition.
10.4. Inspect for fuel leaks.
