Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM) - Sensor Programming
Tire Pressure Monitoring Sensor Programming^ Tool Required
- J 41760 Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM) Sensor Programming Tool
The Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM) system uses the instrument panel cluster's Driver Information Center (DIC), Body Control Module (BCM), Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (RCDLR), and a class 2 serial data circuit to perform the sensor programming functions. Once the program mode is initialized, each sensor's unique identification code can be programmed into the RCDLR's memory. Each sensor must transmit it's unique ID code in the proper sequence in order to determine tire location. A magnet must be held close to the sensor in order to force the sensor to transmit it's ID code. The DIC will display a message as each sensor ID is programmed, and when to proceed to the next sensor. The RCDLR also sends a message to the BCM to sound a horn chirp, indicating the RCDLR has received the sensor's ID code. If the programming sequence is cancelled before all 4 sensor IDs have been programmed, the RCDLR will remember all ID codes programmed to the point of cancellation. As soon as the RCDLR programs the first sensor ID code, all previously programmed ID codes are erased from the receiver's memory.
Programming TPM Sensors
Important: Make sure the vehicle has been stationary for at least 2 minutes before attempting to program the TPM sensors.
1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
2. Press the RESET button in order to clear any DIC warning messages.
3. Press and release the OPTIONS button until the DIC display is blank.
4. Press and hold the DIC RESET button for 3 seconds.
5. Press the OPTIONS button again until the TIRE TRAINING message appears.
6. Press the RESET button until the IPC LEARN L FRONT TIRE message appears.
7. Install the J41760 Tire Pressure Sensor Programming Tool over the left front valve stem.
Important: If a horn chirp does not sound after 15 seconds, remove then reinstall the TPM sensor programming tool. This procedure may have to be attempted up to three times in some instances. If the RCDLR still does not receive the sensor ID being programmed, refer to Diagnostic System Check - Tire Pressure Monitoring.
8. A horn chirp will sound, indicating the left front sensor ID code is programmed.
9. Program the next sensors in the following order as directed by the DIC messages:
^ LEARN R FRONT TIRE
^ LEARN R REAR TIRE
^ LEARN L REAR TIRE
Programming Cancellation
The programming mode will be cancelled if any of the following occurs:
^ The program mode is exited through the DIC.
^ The ignition is turned to OFF.
^ All four sensors have been programmed.
^ The TPM system has been in the program mode for longer than 2 minutes and no sensors have been programmed.
^ The vehicle battery is disconnected.
