COMPRESSOR REPLACEMENTTOOLS REQUIRED
J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
IMPORTANT: The Supercharged L32 engine utilizes two drive belts. The outer drive belt drives the supercharger. Only release the drive belt tension from the accessories drive belt tensioner.
2. Release the drive belt tension by lifting or rotating the drive belt tensioner with a 15mm box end wrench on the pulley nut.
3. Remove the drive belt from the A/C compressor pulley and position the drive belt aside.
4. Slowly release the tension from the drive belt tensioner and remove the wrench.
5. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
6. Remove the splash shield from the right side of the engine.
7. Remove the lower air deflector.
8. Remove the A/C compressor hose bolt.
9. Disconnect the A/C compressor hose from A/C compressor.
10. Disconnect the electrical connector from the A/C compressor.
11. Remove and discard the sealing washers.
12. Loosen the rear mounting bolt from the A/C compressor.
13. Remove the front mounting bolts from the A/C compressor.
14. Remove the front mounting nut from the A/C compressor.
15. Remove the A/C compressor.
IMPORTANT: Replacement compressors are shipped with PAG oil.
16. If replacing the compressor, balance the compressor oil. Refer to Compressor Oil Balancing.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
1. Install the compressor drain plug (1).
Tighten
Tighten the drain plug to 16 N.m (12 lb ft).
2. Position the A/C compressor on to the rear A/C compressor mounting bolt and front A/C compressor stud.
3. Install the A/C compressor front bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
4. Install the A/C compressor front nut.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
5. Tighten the A/C compressor rear bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
6. Install the new sealing washers.
7. Install the A/C compressor hose assembly to the A/C compressor.
8. Install the A/C compressor hose nut to the compressor.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 27 N.m (20 lb ft).
9. Connect the electrical connector to the A/C compressor.
10. Install the lower air deflector.
11. Install the splash shield to the right side of the engine.
12. Lower the vehicle.
13. Release the drive belt tension by lifting or rotating the drive belt tensioner with a 15mm box end wrench on the pulley nut.
14. Install the drive belt around the A/C compressor pulley.
IMPORTANT: Verify that the drive belt is aligned into the proper grooves of all pulleys.
15. Slowly release the tension from the drive belt tensioner and remove the wrench.
16. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
17. Using J 39400-A, leak test the fittings of the component.
