Instrument Panel (IP) - Carrier Replacement
Instrument Panel (I/P) Carrier Replacement (Chevrolet)
Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Caution: Refer to Restraint System Service Precautions in Service Precautions.
2. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 and to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 5 in Restraint Systems.
3. Remove the instrument panel (I/P) trim pad.
4. Remove the I/P cluster.
5. Remove the I/P mounted SIR module.
6. Remove the screw (4) from the HVAC temperature control cable.
7. Remove the control cable end (3) from the door lever (2).
8. Remove the HVAC control assembly from the I/P carrier. Leave the harness connected to the HVAC control and position aside.
9. Remove the radio from the I/P carrier.
10. Remove the air distribution duct.
11. Remove the steering wheel.
12. Remove the tilt lever.
13. Remove the washer switch.
14. Remove the screws (2) from the I/P carrier (3).
15. Remove the nuts (4) from the I/P carrier (3).
16. Remove the I/P carrier (3) from the lower tie bar (1).
17. Remove the I/P carrier (3) from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
1. Place the I/P carrier (3) into the vehicle.
2. Install the I/P carrier (3) to the lower tie bar (1).
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
3. Install the screws (2) to I/P carrier (3).
Tighten the screws to 2.3 N.m (20 lb in).
4. Install the nuts (4) to the I/P carrier (3).
Tighten the nuts to 5 N.m (44 lb in).
5. Install the washer switch.
6. Install the tilt lever.
7. Install the steering wheel.
8. Install the air distribution duct.
9. Install the radio to the I/P carrier.
10. Install the HVAC control assembly to the I/P carrier.
11. Install the end of the HVAC temperature control cable (3) to the door lever (2).
12. Install the control cable screw (4).
Tighten the screw to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
13. Install the I/P SIR module.
14. Install the I/P cluster.
15. Install the I/P trim pad.
16. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 and to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 5 in Restraint Systems.
17. Connect the negative battery cable.
