INDICATOR/WARNING MESSAGE DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
INDICATORS
HIGH ENGINE TEMPERATURE
The high engine temperature indicator is a LED on the temperature gage. The high engine temperature indicator illuminates when the IPC receives a command from the BCM via the serial peripheral interface (SPI) to illuminate.
LOW FUEL
The low fuel indicator is a LED on the fuel gage. The IPC illuminates the low fuel indicator in the following situations:
- The IPC determines that the fuel level is less than a pre-determined value. The IPC receives a signal from the BCM via the serial peripheral interface (SPI) indicating the fuel level.
- The BCM detects a loss of class 2 communications with the PCM.
- The IPC detects a loss of SPI communications with the BCM.
- The PCM detects a malfunction in the fuel level sensor circuit.
LOW OIL LEVEL
The IPC illuminates the CHECK OIL indicator when the powertrain control module (PCM) detects low engine oil level, and the signal circuit is high. The PCM only monitors the signal circuit of the engine oil level switch for a brief period when the key moves from ON to START. The body control module (BCM) receives a class 2 message requesting illumination from the PCM. The IPC receives a message requesting illumination from the BCM via the serial peripheral interface (SPI).
LOW OIL PRESSURE
The IPC illuminates the engine oil pressure indicator when the powertrain control module (PCM) detects low engine oil pressure, and the signal circuit is low. The body control module (BCM) receives a class 2 message requesting illumination from the PCM. The BCM sends a message requesting illumination to the IPC via the serial peripheral interface (SPI).
SERVICE VEHICLE SOON
The IPC illuminates the SERVICE VEHICLE SOON indicator in the following conditions:
- The PCM detects certain malfunctions that are not related to the emissions system. The body control module (BCM) sends a message requesting illumination to the IPC via the serial peripheral interface (SPI). The BCM receives a class 2 message requesting illumination from the PCM.
- The BCM detects a loss of SPI data from the IPC.
