SYMPTOMS - INSTRUMENT PANEL, GAGES AND CONSOLE

IMPORTANT: The following steps must be completed before using the symptom tables.

1. Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle before using the Symptom Tables in order to verify that all of the following are true:
- There are no DTCs set.
- The control modules can communicate via the serial data link. Testing and Inspection
2. Review the system operation in order to familiarize yourself with the system functions. Refer to the following:
- Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Description and Operation
- Indicator/Warning Message Description and Operation
- Audible Warnings Description and Operation

Visual/Physical Inspection
- Inspect for aftermarket devices which could affect the operation of the instrument panel cluster or audible warnings system.
- Inspect the easily accessible or visible system components for obvious damage or conditions which could cause the symptom.
- Inspect for the proper fluid levels.

Intermittent
Faulty electrical connections or wiring may be the cause of intermittent conditions. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections. Component Tests and General Diagnostics

Refer to a symptom diagnostic procedure from the following list in order to diagnose the symptom:

Gages, PRNDL, and Odometer
- Shift Indicator Indicates Wrong Gear Selection for the 4T40-E/4T45-E transaxle.
- Engine Coolant Temperature Gage Inaccurate or Inoperative
- Fuel Gage Inaccurate or Inoperative
- Odometer Trip/Reset Switch Inoperative
- Speedometer and/or Odometer Inaccurate or Inoperative
- Tachometer Inaccurate or Inoperative

1. Brake Warning Indicator Always On
2. Brake Warning Indicator Inoperative
3. ABS Indicator Always On
4. ABS Indicator Inoperative
5. Low Traction Indicator Always On
6. Low Traction Indicator Inoperative
7. Traction Off Indicator Always On
8. Traction Off Indicator Inoperative
9. Engine Coolant Temperature Indicator Always On
10. Charge Indicator Always On
11. Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Inoperative for the 2.2L engine
12. Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Always On for the 2.2L engine
13. Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Diagnosis for the 3.5L engine
14. Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Diagnosis for the 3.9L engine
15. Engine Oil Pressure Indicator Always On (2.2L and 3.5L)
16. Engine Oil Pressure Indicator Always On (3.9L)
17. Low Fuel Indicator Inoperative
18. Outside Air Temperature Display Inaccurate or Inoperative
19. High Beam Indicator Inoperative
20. Turn Signal Lamps and/or Indicators Inoperative

22. Air Bag Indicator Circuit Malfunction
