Air Conditioning Compressor Oil Balancing
Draining Procedure
Warning:
Refer to Safety Glasses Warning Safety Glasses Warning.
Note:
Rotate the compressor (1) while draining to assist in polyalkylene glycol (PAG) oil removal.
1. Drain and measure the PAG oil from the original compressor (1) via the drain plug and compressor ports into a clean, graduated container (2).
2. Record the amount of PAG oil drained from the removed compressor (1). This measurement will be used during installation of the replacement compressor.
3. Correctly discard the used PAG oil.
4. Clean the graduated cylinder.
Note:
Drain and measure as much of the PAG oil as possible from the NEW compressor (1).
Rotate the compressor (1) while draining to assist in PAG oil removal.
5. Drain the PAG oil from the NEW compressor (1) via the drain plug and compressor ports into a clean, graduated container (2).
Balancing Procedure
Note:
If the amount of PAG oil recorded from the removed compressor is less than 60 ml (2.0 fl. oz), disregard the recorded amount and pour a total of 60 ml (2.0 fl. oz) of the NEW PAG oil back into the NEW compressor (1).
1. Add back the same quantity of PAG oil to the NEW compressor (1) that was recorded from the removed compressor.
2. If the system had a gross leak before the compressor change, then add the full oil amount into the new compressor. The production oil amount is specified on the removed compressor label.
3. Rotate the NEW compressor (1) three times to lubricate the internal compressor components.
4. Install the air conditioning compressor drain plug and tighten to 30Nm(22 lb ft).
