Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Primary) Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Primary)Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Auxiliary) Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Auxiliary).

2. Reposition the battery cable junction block (1).

Note:
The left catalytic converter to cylinder head retaining nuts (5) and gasket (3) are single use parts. They must be discarded after removal.

3. Remove the left pre-catalytic convertor heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) connector (1) and sensor (2). Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Bank 2 Sensor 1 Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Bank 2 Sensor 1.

Remove and discard the nuts (5) retaining the left hand catalytic converter to the cylinder head.

Danger:
To avoid any vehicle damage, serious personal injury or death when major components are removed from the vehicle and the vehicle is supported by a hoist, support the vehicle with jack stands at the opposite end from which the components are being removed and strap the vehicle to the hoist.

4. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.

5. Remove the nuts (1) retaining the left hand catalytic converter to the crossover pipe assembly (3).

6. Discard the sealing ring (2).

7. With the aid of an assistant, disconnect the left hand catalytic convertor (1) from the crossover pipe assembly (2) and carefully maneuver the left hand catalytic convertor (1) from the vehicle.

8. Lower the vehicle.

9. If required to replace, remove the exhaust studs (1) from the cylinder head.

Installation Procedure

Warning:
Refer to Exhaust Service Warning Exhaust Service Warning.

Caution:
Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

1. Install NEW studs (1) to the cylinder head.

Tighten the studs to 14 Nm (124 lb in).

2. Ensure that the gasket mating surfaces on the cylinder head and catalytic convertor are flat and free from defects or old gasket material.

3. Install a new exhaust gasket to the studs (1) on the cylinder head.

Note:
Ensure that a NEW sealing ring is fitted prior to installation. Failure to comply may cause the exhaust system to perform poorly.

5. Install a new sealing ring (4) to the exhaust flange on the catalytic convertor.

6. With the aid of an assistant, lift the left catalytic converter assembly (1) up and forward to engage both the exhaust studs on the cylinder head and the mating join on the crossover pipe (2).

Note:
Do not fully tighten the left catalytic converter to cross-over pipe retaining nuts (3) at this stage.

7. Loosely install the retaining nuts (3).

Do not fully tighten at this stage.

8. Lower the vehicle.

9. Install a NEW gasket (3) to the exhaust studs.

10. Install the left hand catalytic convertor (4) to the exhaust studs.

11. Install NEW retaining nuts (5) to the exhaust studs and tighten to 45 Nm (33 lb ft)

Danger:
To avoid any vehicle damage, serious personal injury or death when major components are removed from the vehicle and the vehicle is supported by a hoist, support the vehicle with jack stands at the opposite end from which the components are being removed and strap the vehicle to the hoist.

12. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.

13. Install the catalytic converter fasteners (1) with a NEW seal (2) and tighten to 40 Nm (33 lb ft)

Tighten the nuts to 45 Nm (29 lb ft).

14. Ensure that the exhaust system is clear of all other components and chassis. If the exhaust system is not clear of all the other components loosen all retaining nuts and re-align.

15. Lower the vehicle.

16. Install the left pre-catalytic convertor HO2S. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Bank 2 Sensor 1 Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Bank 2 Sensor 1.

17. Connect the battery ground cable to the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Primary) Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Primary)Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Auxiliary) Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Auxiliary).
