Audio System - Radio Software Update

Subject: -Radio Software Update Enhancements April 2012

This bulletin is being revised to update the Important statement. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 12-08-44-002 (Section 08 - Body and Accessories).

Condition

Customers may comment about the following radio/CD functional issues:

1. No display (black screen), no sound and no function (only hazard light button functional).
This condition is typically recovered by cycling the ignition. (Check with customer if screen goes white or black. If screen goes white, replace fascia as Software will not fix).

2. CD plays slow intermittently. Only affects base level vehicles without" Stored CD" function.

3. CD forgets position.
CD starts playing from different track to the previous key cycle.

4. HVAC button stuck.

- Button behaves as if it is pressed continually.

- Most commonly seen in fan up/down buttons.

5. Internal component communication issue may cause one or more of the following symptoms.

- When on/off button pressed to turn radio on/off, radio screen remains on screen although audio does turn on/off.

- HVAC status not displayed on status bar.

- Clock not displayed on status bar.

- Calendar screen (displayed when radio turned off) does not show any text, only background graphic.

- Remote (steering wheel) controls have no apparent effect on the radio.

- "Set time" option on config menu shows incorrect numbers, e.g. Hour = 87, Minute = 99.

- "Set date" option on config menu shows incorrect numbers, e.g. Date = 99, Month = 99, Year = 9999.

- HVAC controls inoperative.

6. Radio doesn't shut down.
Radio is observed to be on (clock screen) after more than 60 mins since key off.

7. Volume escalates without user input.
Volume control inoperative until ignition turned off.

8. CD Track title incorrect.
Song being played does not match the song displayed in track information bar.

9. HVAC temperature set point display shows "C".
Radio displays "C" when the HVAC temperature provided is different.

10. HVAC blowing on high in defrost mode.

11. Screen brightness cannot be adjusted, radio configuration display shows "X".

12. No sound following crank.

- All sources affected.

- Recovered by an ignition cycle.

13. Black screen and no keyboard backlighting.
Recovered by an ignition cycle.

14. Radio resets

- Radio system goes blank then system restarts.

- Does not include the system reset when a low voltage crank occurs.

Software issues in the radio system can result in these issues.

For the above listed issues, dealers should SPS program the Radio system from TIS2WEB.

Important

- Confirm the customer's concern is consistent with the issues mentioned above.

- Check the VIN and build date to confirm the vehicle is built PRIOR to the breakpoint. Do NOT SPS program any vehicle built after the breakpoint. Continue with normal diagnosis.

- If during reprogramming, communication is lost and the radio appears to be locked up, attempt to reset the radio by pulling the radio fuse. If the radio does not unlock, replacement will be necessary.
