Subject: Snow Chains Now Approved for Caprice PPV
Models:
2011-2012 Chevrolet Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle (PPV)
The use of snow chains for the Chevrolet Caprice PPV has now been approved.
The following conditions must be adhered to before they can be fitted to the vehicle:
- The vehicle must be equipped with a P235/50R18 tire size.
- Use tire chains only where legal and only when necessary.
- Only low profile chains that add no more than 12 mm (0.5 in) thickness to the tire tread and inner sidewall should be installed. Higher profile chains should not be fitted as they may contact the vehicle.
- Use chains that are the proper size for the tires.
- Only fit chains to the tires of the rear axle. Chains must not be fitted to the front axle tires.
- Tighten them as securely as possible with the ends securely fastened. Drive slowly and follow the chain manufacturer's instructions. If the chains contact the vehicle, stop and retighten them. If the contact continues, slow down until it stops.
- Driving too fast or spinning the wheels with chains on will damage the vehicle.
- Remove the chains as soon as the driving conditions allow for removal of the chains. Drive with chains only on snow-packed / icy roads.
Failure to follow these steps or the tire chain manufacturer's instructions could result in damage to the vehicle that would not be covered by the vehicle's warranty.
